Pledge of allegiance: Shipman & Goodwin's streamlined draft aligns the district policy with Conn. Gen. Stat. §10‑230c and removes an enumerated list of opt‑out reasons and prescriptive instructions (such as stand/sit language). The committee recommended repealing the old Opening Ceremonies rule R6115 and placing the streamlined policy in the 5000 series for student policies.
Chemical health for student athletes: Legal counsel's audit identified a missing required policy in the 5000/5100 series. The draft chemical‑health policy (prohibiting possession, sale, distribution or use of controlled substances by student‑athletes) was reviewed and staff reported no objections from athletic directors; committee will add it as Policy 5131.5.
Diabetes regulation: Staff recommended rescinding regulation 5141.207 because the policy 5141.25 and the district procedure manual already provide required diabetes management procedures. Nursing supervisor supported rescission.
All three items will be presented to the full board for first read; committee members requested staff and legal counsel to adjust numbering/repeal language before that meeting.
