The Brookfield Board of Health moved through several operational items and administrative votes that will shape the department’s near-term work.
Nominations and appointments: The board voted to nominate Steve Novak as animal inspector and Deb Young as backup for 2026 and agreed to forward the nomination to the state for appointment. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Contracts and systems: The board approved a grant-funded software-as-a-service agreement for permitting (Relevant Systems Incorporated) and authorized Christina to sign a clean copy once provided by coalition staff. The board also discussed a previously unsigned contract for contractor McKenzie and made a motion authorizing the town administrator to sign the McKenzie contract pending review by KP Law.
Other operational items: Board members heard updates about the landfill gas/well testing contract and the transfer-station waistband-compliance paperwork; they approved ordering orange bags to support the town’s Brookfield Clean Sweep event and agreed to route invoices through town accounting.
Communications and records: Members asked coalition staff to provide monthly summaries and to copy the board on pending permits; the board agreed to improve notification to the town communications committee so public lists (septic installers/haulers, retailer lists) stay current.
Minutes and records: The board amended and approved the January 28 minutes and agreed to redact house numbers from publicly posted minutes to address privacy and public-safety concerns raised during public comment.
Next steps: Coalition and staff will provide updated lists and templates for communications, and the town administrator and legal counsel will be asked to finalize contract-signature questions.
