Officials said the reductions were designed to limit impact on students while lowering the net increase to approximately 3.77% after accounting for recently announced supplemental state aid.
Finance staff reported year‑to‑date expenditures at about 77% and encumbrances at 99%, and noted the district typically closes purchase orders at the fiscal year end. The board read the warning into the record: the annual meeting will be held June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Kagenchog Regional High School library and the referendum vote will be on June 2 between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. The gross budget figure read into the warning was $44,218,342 for 2026–27. Board staff later provided a breakdown of the supplemental state aid: Durham $131,730; Middlefield $84,014 (total $215,744).
The board voted to adopt the revised budget warning and proceed with the scheduled dates. Board members said staff will finalize a fact sheet and additional outreach to inform voters before the referendum.
