Cochran council approves Arbor Day recognition, committee reappointments and procedural updates

The Cochran City Council on Jan. 10 approved a package of administrative actions, including recognizing Georgia Arbor Day on Feb. 17, reappointing two members to the City Ethics Committee and aligning the city travel meal per diem with State of Georgia rates.
City Manager Richard Newbern presented several routine items on the consent and business calendar. Councilmember Jimmy Jones moved to recognize Arbor Day in Cochran on Feb. 17, 2023; Councilmember Gary Ates seconded and the motion passed 5–0. The council reappointed Sam Barrs and Ethel King to the City Ethics Committee after a motion by Jones and a second by Ates, which passed 5–0.
Councilmembers approved a retreat at Little Ocmulgee State Park in McRae and appointed Brooke Miller as the retreat facilitator; the council also adopted the FY 2023–24 budget calendar. In separate action, the council voted to change its travel meal reimbursement per diem to coincide with State of Georgia rates. All motions described above passed on recorded 5–0 votes.
