The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a package of school budget amendments on April 27, adopting changes to the Board of Education's General Fund and Centralized Cafeteria Fund for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
The action updates revenue and appropriations the county received after the fiscal-year budget was set. Among the changes recorded in the BOE package was correction of an allocation for the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) program ($86,308.13), recognition of a state child-nutrition match for the cafeteria fund ($27,566.45) and a set of midyear payroll alignments across teacher, aide and other personnel accounts. The commission recorded the motions and passed the measures by recorded vote with 13 commissioners voting yes; three members were absent.
Finance Director Andrea Smith submitted the finance packet and the Board of Education's corrective schedules that accompany the resolutions. Commissioners said the paperwork was required to reconcile audit timing and midyear payroll items so the county and school system would not exceed legal appropriations in any fund. The action also included a related resolution that adjusted the county's Drug Control Fund beginning balance to align with audited and closed-year numbers.
The commission's votes were recorded in the meeting minutes and will be sent to the county finance office and the Board of Education for their records. There were no public speakers on the budget items during the meeting; the commission moved through the consent and budget items as part of the regular agenda and adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
