The three boards approved required nutrition-certification motions and a one-year renewal of the district's food-service contract at the May 26 meeting.
First, each board certified compliance with Connecticut nutrition standards for the period July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, a statutory requirement that covers reimbursable meals and additional food sold on school premises. Second, boards approved a separate motion allowing limited exceptions for noncompliant food and beverages sold at after-school events (for example, sporting events or plays), provided sales occur offsite from vending machines and school stores and only during events occurring after the regular school day.
Finally, the joint operations committee recommended renewing the food-service management contract with Chartwells (US division) for 2026–27. Boards approved a one-year extension; in region 9's vote Megan recused herself. Administrators said the renewal is the final year of the current contractual structure and will be followed by procurement planning.
