Key changes in the 2027–28 calendar include an earlier start in late August (two weeks before Labor Day), converting the day before Thanksgiving from a half day to a full day off (Nov. 24), and shifting an intersession/professional-development day in January to better align with Regional School District 09's planned intersession schedule. The draft also sets spring break to align with Good Friday and identifies June dates to be used as snow-day make-up days if needed.
Administrators told the boards the changes were designed to reduce a pattern of late June school endings observed in recent years and to better coordinate vacation weeks with neighboring districts. Board members asked staff to mark overlapping religious holidays (for example, when Yom Kippur coincides with Columbus Day) appropriately on published calendars to inform families planning around observances.
All three boards approved the calendars as presented. Administrators will publish the schedules with notation for religious observances and circulate guidance to schools on implementation of the adjusted holiday and PD schedule.
