The board reviewed its 2026 parks and recreation calendar and the project matrix that staff uses to prioritize work. Staff explained that items highlighted in yellow are ongoing, while items in orange are capital improvement projects (defined in the meeting as projects of $40,000 and above and handled through the city CIP process). The board agreed to an online survey to score priorities and asked staff to circulate it ahead of the February meeting.
Staff also reviewed programming plans (Easter egg hunt, Fall Fest, sledding and s'mores) and asked members to volunteer to steward monthly Parks Corner/Harbor Light articles. The sledding and s'mores event was canceled the day of the program due to icy conditions and staff said it will be rescheduled for Jan. 24; programming earlier in the year may include pickleball and Dino Dig discussions.
In the parks director report, staff said a planned restroom roof and plumbing update at the beach is expected to cost under $60,000 and will be presented to council for approval; staff noted bids and contractor coordination are being explored and that grouping multiple small projects could reduce contractor costs. The board was also briefed on Ice Fest (Feb. 6–7) where parks will hand out hot dogs and on a proposed drone show (privately funded) that requires council approval.
Next steps: staff to send the project‑priority survey to members, compile results for discussion in February and circulate design/contract materials for small capital projects to council as required.
