Jan, speaking for the high school, said more than 300 juniors presented "Portrait of the Graduate" projects emphasizing collaboration, communication, empathy and problem solving. She reported two students won recognition at the University of Bridgeport RISE science fair: a junior received honorable mention and a senior placed third overall. Jan also said a student semifinalist in Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow competition had secured $10,000 in educational-technology resources for the district to support work on wireless charging for pacemakers.
Jan highlighted 76 new inductees into world-language honor societies, a reality-fair financial-literacy exercise that engaged roughly 370 students with community volunteers, and an Earth Day campus cleanup that collected more than 70 pounds of trash. The high-school theater production of My Fair Lady earned multiple nominations in the statewide Stephen Sondheim Awards.
Shre delivered the middle-school report, describing seventh-grade field trips to a Bridgeport Islanders hockey game and a Discovery Museum visit, participation in Yukon STEM workshops for young women, unified-sports participation in a Special Olympics fundraiser, and eighth-grade transition activities including panoramic photos and a Boston trip.
Board members thanked the students for the updates and asked a few clarifying questions about timelines and upcoming concerts and fairs.
