At its May 14 meeting, the Plymouth Center for Active Living Advisory Board reviewed April programming, facility improvements and outreach plans and discussed a fall business expo to highlight the CAL Café and local vendors.
Cheryl Jones summarized April highlights including a full house at the April 2 Breakfast with the Police Department and multiple popular programs: Aging Well for Women (22 attendees), BID Heart Health Education (23), an "Understanding AI and Machine" presentation (43) and a documentary screening and discussion (30). Staff reported that three CAL employees completed Active Shooter training and that a hydration station and privacy strips in the women’s downstairs bathroom have been installed. Jones said patrons can now use credit cards at the CAL Café.
The Marketing Committee reported that, with measurements taken of the facility, the Card Room can host 26 vendor booths for a November business expo. The committee is considering engagement ideas such as a vendor "passport" or scavenger hunt, and emphasized keeping the Café open during the event. Friends’ leaders and Marketing Committee members discussed coordinating corporate sponsorship solicitations to avoid overlap. Volunteers and committee members suggested outreach through chambers, Rotary and Lions clubs and producing a short video to recruit business participants. The Senior Task Force said an Age and Dementia training session was canceled for low enrollment and will rework messaging and outreach plans.
The board also set a timeline for the Annual Report: committee work is ongoing with a goal to present the report on July 9, 2026, and to feature CAL staff on the cover. Janice Capofreddi will research and announce the Advisory Board officer election date for June 11.
