West Mead Township commissioners briefly discussed AI data center developments during the June 25 meeting and reviewed informational materials provided by township staff.
Recording Secretary Jill Dunlap said the current zoning ordinance treats data centers as permitted uses in the LI (Light Industrial) district and that any large data center would also require land-development review because of building size. Dunlap distributed informational handouts including a Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) article entitled "Challenges and Solutions for Data Centers," a proposed ordinance circulated by Crawford County, Pennsylvania House bills under consideration, and a sample ordinance from Shamokin Township.
Don Goldstein, who attended a recent county meeting, was noted as a possible speaker at an upcoming meeting to share impressions; the commission did not take further action on data-center rules at the June 25 session.
