Concord cemetery committee notes $850,000 Sleepy Hollow expansion approved, hears operations update

The Town of Concord Cemetery Committee on May 6 heard operations and maintenance updates from Cemetery Supervisor Tish Hopkins, who reported Town Meeting approved $850,000 for the Sleepy Hollow lot expansion and staff have begun planning with the Engineering Division and the contractor.
Hopkins said cemetery activity in April included four full interments, four cremation interments and the sale of two single grave lots. She reported volunteers from the Maynard-Clinton Elks placed 1,711 flags on veterans' graves for Memorial Day and that the contracted landscape crew has completed spring cleanup and started mowing.
Hopkins said a meeting will be scheduled between the contractor and the new members of the Columbarium Subcommittee to coordinate construction and installation work. She added the Town Manager will reach out to volunteers who expressed interest in serving on the Cemetery Committee.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the expansion during the meeting; Hopkins stated the $850,000 appropriation was approved previously at Town Meeting. The committee set its next meeting for June 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
