Toms River to pilot discounted Kaplan real-estate pre-licensing course for high school students

Board curriculum staff proposed a pilot program to offer a Kaplan New Jersey real-estate pre-licensing course to high-school students, telling the board on Feb. 18 that Kaplan will provide a 75-hour asynchronous pre-licensing course at a 50% discounted rate to students.
Under the proposal, the discounted student cost would be $164.50. Students who are 17 may enroll and have up to six months to complete the course; they may take the New Jersey state certification exam when they turn 18. The district intends to pilot the course with business-academy students at High School South this spring and, if successful, open it to all high-school students next school year with guidance-counselor outreach to families.
Staff framed the offering as a career-path expansion and noted classroom-aligned benefits (financial planning, mortgage and home-value literacy). The pilot would be a cost option for families; staff said counselors will communicate eligibility and enrollment details.
The board did not vote on the pilot during the meeting; staff presented the opportunity for board input and said implementation details and enrollment logistics will be worked out with guidance and business academy staff.
