District reports maintenance staffing gains, Sodexo faces first penalties for two unfilled HVAC positions

District maintenance staff reported improvement in contractor staffing (Sodexo) to ~96.9% after a transition; two senior HVAC technician roles remain open and contractual penalties for staffing shortfalls will be enforced.
The district’s maintenance and custodial update showed 83 district inspections completed with vendors completing 714 checks this month, and cumulative data of 16,300 work orders received to date with 13,613 completed and about 3,059 work orders in progress. Staff said the new facilities maintenance contractor, Sodexo, increased staffing from roughly 50% at contract start to 96.9% but remains two HVAC technicians short; the contract requires full staffing and the district indicated it will enforce the first penalties for January.
Staff noted improvements in response times (averaging roughly 4–5 days for completion within a 14‑day period in most zones) and said vendors and the district have initiated partnerships with Technical College of the Lowcountry and local military transition programs to recruit skilled trades workers. The update included highlights of recently completed projects and a dedication event for a media center scheduled later in the week.
The committee thanked staff for the detail and progress; staff said they will continue to track staffing, penalties and recruitment partnerships.
