School committee accepts donation of about 1,500 work boots worth roughly $225,000

Heidi Driscoll said the donation has an estimated retail value of about $225,000 and the staff wanted to accept the gift immediately so distribution to students could begin.
"We have freshmen and kids who need new boots and we would love to give those out as soon as humanly possible," the superintendent said. A member moved to accept the gift; the motion was seconded and passed by roll-call vote.
Members welcomed the donation. Alice Lucas called it "terrific news," and others said it was especially useful because vocational programs require protective footwear. The committee approved accepting the boots and did not attach conditions beyond standard acceptance procedures.
