Erin Noren, Minute Man’s director of admissions and marketing, told the school committee that the recent Showcase Day and open house drew larger crowds than in recent years and are helping recruitment.
"That initial showcase day had 455 students come and see our shops," Erin said, adding that a mini-showcase scheduled for Thursday would bring the total to about 545 students. She reported open house had 340 registered families (about 880 people), and staff recorded additional unregistered families who entered through open doors due to limited parking.
Erin also told the committee that NBC Boston ran a feature focused on why students choose career and technical education; the piece aired the evening of Nov. 6 and the morning of Nov. 7. "You can view the clip on their website as well as all of their social media," she said.
Separately, Erin described an emerging partnership with the Boston Children's Museum, which has invited Minute Man students—particularly those in construction-related shops—to be profiled in a "dream it build it" exhibit. The museum envisions short video vignettes and has asked Minute Man multimedia students to help on production and tech; the museum's exhibit timeline depends on production and build schedules, with a target of spring to fall of next year.
School leaders praised staff and student volunteers for the successful events and highlighted the opportunity to show career pathways to families and prospective students.
