The Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School Committee voted to approve first-quarter budget transfers to fund a director of human resources position and two paraprofessionals.
Finance director Nikki presented the general fund report for the quarter ending Sept. 30 and identified two projected deficits that the proposed transfers would cover, describing the change as part of a superintendent-led reorganization. "10% is still available within our budget in unencumbered," Nikki said, adding that proposed transfers would reallocate salary lines to support the new HR role and additional classroom support.
Committee members moved the motion "first quarter general fund budget transfers as presented," seconded by another member, and brought it to a roll-call vote. The motion passed with recorded yes votes from members present.
The administration said that routine payroll and insurance encumbrances account for most fixed costs and that any hire or spending outside the approved budget would need further school committee approval if over the $10,000 threshold mentioned by the business office.
The committee’s approval authorizes the administration to adjust internal salary allocations and proceed with implementing the HR director position and the two paraprofessionals; the board did not specify hire dates in the discussion. The motion was recorded and carried by roll call.
