Lake County planning commission continues two hearings amid state of emergency

Lake County planning staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 29 that the county is in a current state of emergency and recommended postponing two scheduled public hearings until the commission’s next meeting on July 13.

"Lake County is in a current state of emergency" and staff advised continuing the hearings, the staff member said, citing guidance from the Board of County Commissioners and the county manager’s office. Staff told commissioners that calendars and rosters show all four commissioners are available on July 13, which would ensure a quorum to hear the matters.

Commissioner David Urich (recorded later in the transcript as “David Jurich”) moved to continue the public hearing for file 26-15, the 2026 joint Leadville–Lake County comprehensive plan, to July 13; another commissioner seconded the motion and the three commissioners recorded as present voted in favor. A separate motion to continue file 25-9, the Alpen Flow Group Camp conditional use permit (CUP), to July 13 was made, seconded and also passed unanimously among the commissioners present.

Staff also announced two personnel items: Anthony Actis has expressed interest in serving on the planning commission and is expected to participate at the July 13 meeting, and Ryan Hill submitted a formal resignation from his appointment to the board citing conflicts. During adjournment staff acknowledged Sterling Mudge in the boardroom; Mudge briefly expressed disappointment that the full planning commission was not present and staff responded that commissioners would see him on July 13.

The commission confirmed July 13 as the next regular meeting and adjourned at 4:13 p.m.
