Caldwell officials outline timetable for library move, civic center, sewer clarifier and other capital work

Borough Administrator Alex Palumbo provided a multi-item project update to the Borough of Caldwell Council at the June 9 meeting, outlining finances and near-term schedules for several capital projects and facility moves.
Palumbo said that following the award of the old library building project the redevelopment fund will have a remaining balance of $4.836 million, with $2.9 million in unencumbered funds available. He reported that the Civic Center project is awaiting a signed contract and that staff hopes to begin work in July once the contract is executed.
On the Kaplan Lot, Palumbo said the borough is looking to use the Morris County cooperative purchasing program to mill and pave the lot and that Manny, the borough's new Community Development Director (first referenced by given name), is setting up a meeting to advance that work. Florence Place remains on hold pending signed contractor agreements; Mayor Jones requested Princeton elm trees be planted where needed as part of that work.
Palumbo said the sewer-plant clarifier project is projected to start in August. He also reported an on-site meeting occurred with prospective bidders for a fire-house expansion. Regarding the library move, Palumbo said furniture for 80 Bloomfield Avenue has been delivered, the library is in the process of moving and setting up, and the municipality's IT company will move technology at the end of the week so staff can report to 80 Bloomfield Avenue on Monday.
These updates were given during the administrator's report; the council took no separate votes on the items during the public meeting.
