Selectman flags Day Street options; Mortlake plans to outsource ambulance service and may request $100,000

In his Selectman’s report at the April 15 Board of Finance meeting, Joe Bellavance said the Board of Selectmen has been focused on the budget and resident service requests such as potholes and downed trees. Bellavance asked that the Fire Commissioners discuss the Day Street project’s three options at their April 28 meeting so the town can decide which option to pursue.
Bellavance reported that the Mortlake Fire Company plans to outsource ambulance service to American Ambulance, likely starting Oct. 1, 2026, depending on budget approval. He said Mortlake would be asking for roughly $100,000 on the ambulance side of its budget to pay the third‑party vendor; no formal vote on that request occurred at the Board of Finance meeting. Bellavance also said the Housing Authority will meet April 22 at 4:00 p.m. to open bids for management of Quebec Square and upper village, and he noted a vacancy on the WPCA after A. Williams’s resignation.
Board members discussed other liaison updates including grant qualification questions and interim financing confirmations the Building Committee is awaiting. The board did not take formal votes on the Day Street options or the ambulance outsourcing at this meeting; those items are slated for further discussion by the Fire Commissioners and selectmen.
