Council adopted the budget amendments “as submitted by the finance officer” on a roll-call motion by Terry Burkardt and support from Lena Kaczmarek; the recorded tally was six yes, zero no, zero absent. Council also approved a motion by Klavon, supported by James Geiermann, to close Monroe Street between Matthews and Mill on Oct. 12 from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. for a “Witches night” event; the minutes note possible police-staffing limitations and direct DPW to place and remove barricades. Trick-or-Treat was set for Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. by motion of Geiermann, supported by Robert Pernicano; that action passed by voice vote.
During council comments, Larry Buckingham reported equipment issues and a failed Ford Road pump (a 1996 model, approximately 28 years old). Council voted to replace the pump after a motion by Burkardt, supported by Geiermann; the minutes record the estimated replacement cost at $6,500 to $7,000 and a manufacturer lead time of about six months.
Officials also received several operational updates. Stewert Beach told the council the wastewater treatment plant was operating normally with no flooding issues. Dan Cabage and Mike Vander Ploeg reported the sewer project is progressing and should wrap up in about six weeks; James Hollandsworth said sewer lining work for the village portion is scheduled for mid-October.
In public comment, Jayne Dean raised concern about a dead tree beside her property; the council said the matter appears to be a civil issue and that the village does not have authority to act. Joyce Fracker asked council members to contact Frenchtown about a bicentennial tree; Stewert Beach said F&V will distribute candy at the village office for Halloween.
The meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m. The council is scheduled to meet next on Nov. 5, 2024.
