Carleton council approves routine business, awards tree-removal contract and commits $6,043 to park

The Carleton Village Council on Aug. 12 approved routine business and several motions, including awarding a tree-removal contract and committing remaining park funds for the 2023–24 fiscal year.
Council members voted to approve the minutes of July 2, 2024, adopt the meeting agenda and pay bills totaling $89,232.27. The motion to pay bills passed on a roll-call vote recorded as Yes 6, No 0.
On a separate roll-call vote the council awarded tree-removal work at 12753 Mathews Street to Triple DDD Tree Service for $1,195. The motion, made by Dave Klavon and supported by Lena Kaczmarek, passed with six yes votes and no opposition.
The council also approved the Annual Financial Report for the period ending Feb. 29, 2024, as prepared by Calkins, Hehl & Rafko.
In discussion about Ash Carleton Park, council members said the fund balance had not been expended as intended; they approved this year’s expenditures and voted to commit the remaining 2023–24 fund balance of $6,043.47 to the park. The motion to commit the funds passed on a roll-call vote 6–0.
Council appointed Debbie Stolkey as the village representative to the Ash Carleton Park Commission on a motion by Dave Klavon; the appointment passed by voice vote.
Other routine items approved included authorization for President Larry Buckingham to sign a CN Railroad proclamation and approval of a charitable gaming license resolution for Save Monroe Strays. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
