St. Martinville council approves minutes, tentatively OKs Mardi Gras dates and reappoints SMEDA representative

The St. Martinville City Council approved routine business and a series of administrative actions during its Oct. 20 meeting.
Councilwoman Flo Chatman moved and Councilwoman Janise Anthony seconded approval of the Oct. 6, 2025 meeting minutes; the motion was unanimously carried. Upon a request from Brittney Savoy Daye of the Newcomers Club, the council moved to tentatively approve Feb. 15, 2026 for the Mardi Gras Festival and Feb. 7, 2027 for the Mardi Gras Parade; the minutes note final approval will depend on receipt of Chief Martin’s assessment and recommendation.
The council unanimously reappointed Raymond Smith as the city's representative on the St. Martin Economic Development Authority (SMEDA) Board following a motion by Councilman Mike Fuselier and a second from Councilwoman Janise Anthony. Council also declared a list of older vehicles and equipment surplus and approved selling them for salvage following a unanimous motion; the minutes list makes, model years and VIN fragments for each unit.
Mayor Jason Willis provided the financial report prepared by CFO Katy Bujard and delivered a brief mayor’s report listing upcoming community events including Music @ the Market on Oct. 25, Trunk a Treat on Oct. 25 and SMSH alumni events on Oct. 26. With no further business the meeting was adjourned on a motion by Councilwoman Janise Anthony, seconded by Councilwoman Flo Chatman.
Next steps: the Mardi Gras dates remain tentative pending Chief Martin’s assessment; Ordinance No. 25-13 on adjudicated property was introduced and will be considered by the council on Nov. 3, 2025.
