Commissioners approve $177,800 in claims, multiple hiring authorizations and contracts; Keegan Bengle named Equalization director

The Sanac County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 1 approved a series of routine finance and personnel actions, including payment of $177,800 in current claims and multiple job posting and contract authorizations.
At the start of new business the board adopted finance item FA1 14-24 to pay $177,800 from the accounts payable report dated Sept. 24, 2024. Finance chairman Sella moved the payment and Commissioner Christine Lee supported the motion, which the board approved by voice vote.
The board also authorized the posting and filling of a chief deputy election specialist/CPL manager and a District Court Clerk I position, and approved posting to fill a part-time assistant prosecuting attorney position. These personnel authorizations were described in finance items FA14224, FA14324 and FA14424 and each passed by voice vote.
On contracts, commissioners approved a one-year contract for the county's indigent defense director, Robert Hyoer, covering Oct. 1, 2024 to Sept. 30, 2025. The motion's language referenced a wage figure of "105,000," and board members discussed that wording during the motion before approving the contract by voice vote.
The board awarded Arrowhead Upfitters Inc. work to outfit a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe K9 vehicle for the county drug task force at a cost not to exceed $18,995, to be funded by the drug task force. The award was recorded in FA146-24.
Commissioners approved the fiscal-year 2025 School Intervention Officer contract for Nicholas Nemit (FA147-24) effective Oct. 1, 2024.
The board authorized a loan from the county's Delinquent Tax revolving fund not to exceed $68,268 at 3% interest to a set of named local entities (FA14824). The motion was approved by voice vote.
On equalization, the board approved a contract with Bengal Assessing Services LLC not to exceed $80,000 and recommended the appointment of Keegan Bengle as the county's Equalization Director. Bengle introduced himself to the board, saying, "I've been an assessor for about nine years now" and that he currently serves as equalization director in other counties and on the Michigan Association of Equalization Directors board. The motion to approve the contract and appointment carried.
All motions in the finance block were moved and seconded as recorded on the meeting floor, and each was approved by voice vote. No roll-call tallies with individual yes/no votes were provided in the meeting transcript.
