Boyne Falls highlights student activities, faculty role and $1,200 CCCF grant for hydroponics

The Boyne Falls Public School District meeting included several school-oriented updates: the induction of a student representative, a faculty presentation on curriculum and social-emotional learning, reports on student events and a small grant to support a fifth-grade hydroponics project.
Student Gabriel Bouton was sworn in as Student Representative by Cindy Pineda. Faculty members Mitchell Klooster and Jenn Wruk presented a faculty feature in which they introduced Jenn Wruk as this year’s lead teacher and described the play-based curriculum, the use of Teaching Strategies GOLD for assessment, and social-emotional learning strategies.
Student Success Advisor reported a successful Logger Night, a 4th–5th grade Veterans Day field trip and a Class of 2025 corn hole fundraiser that netted about $2,000. Upcoming events noted in the meeting minutes include a winter rec day dinner for volunteers on Nov. 20 and the Christmas program scheduled for Dec. 12; Caroling in the Village is scheduled for Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
The superintendent reported the district received a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Michigan Heart Safe School designation and that Maya Lenz secured a $1,200 grant from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation (CCCF) to purchase a hydroponic growing tower that will be used with fifth graders. The minutes note ongoing staffing activity after the unexpected resignation of Jessica Pleak and that interviews were held the same day to fill the vacancy.
