Students and staff honored: limerick winners and Crystal Apple awards at East Windsor meeting

The board recognized students and staff at the start of its meeting, celebrating student writing and exemplary staff contributions.
Samantha Sheret, recreation lead for East Windsor Parks and Rec, introduced two limerick contest winners and presented Barnes & Noble gift cards. Second- through fourth-grade winner Abby Stard read her limerick: "My mom said go outside and play. It is a great sunshine day. Warm days are coming soon, so go outside and sing a tune. We better obey." Ninth-through-twelfth-grade winner Elizabeth Ramouth read her limerick about cold weather and skinned knees.
Board members presented quarterly Crystal Apple awards to staff across grade levels. Broadbrook’s nominated recipient Megan was praised for taking time to understand student needs and for adding “positivity and compassion” to the building. The middle-school recipient, Miss Crawford, was commended for consistent social-emotional support and outreach to students in hallways and the cafeteria. The high-school Crystal Apple went to Jennifer Goll for building a welcoming, rigorous ELA classroom and strong collaborative work with colleagues.
Board members invited families and students to help themselves to refreshments and noted the awards segment is often followed by attendees departing because of the school-night meeting time.
