Genola approves MOU with state forestry for mutual-aid firefighting

The Genola Town Council voted unanimously on May 20 to approve Agreement 2026-03, a memorandum of understanding between the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and the Genola Fire Department.
Chief William McMullin reviewed the agreement and stated he had no issues with the terms. Councilman Curtis Thomas moved to approve the MOU and Councilman Grant Lundberg seconded; the motion passed with all members voting yes.
At the start of the meeting Chief McMullin reported the department had received a new engine and noted a billing of $9,556 related to the Ocean Canyon fire, of which $6,856 is expected to return to the town for equipment and fuel costs.
The approved MOU follows the format used in previous years, according to meeting remarks, and is intended to clarify mutual-aid and operational cooperation between the state division and the Genola Fire Department.
