The Village of Bloomingdale on April 21 approved a contract to proceed with improvements to Rumery Street and paving of the first two blocks of Oak Street, citing the need to complete the full scope despite a higher cost than originally budgeted.
Council reviewed a proposal from Rieth‑Riley Construction Co., Inc. that lists a base bid total of $44,587.00 for grinding, shaping and paving work and an alternate that would bring the base+alternate total to $71,383.00. The bid notes exclusions (permits, striping, removals, potential undercut remediation) and a seven‑day price validity window in the contractor proposal.
Council members said completing the full project was necessary and approved the motion to proceed (motion by T. Dickerson, supported by T. Fisher). The minutes record that the cost exceeded initial budget estimates but the council agreed the additional paving was required.
The proposal provided by Rieth‑Riley identifies specific line items, including 1,276 SYD of HMA crushing and shaping for Oak Street and 1,467 SYD of Rumery Street paving. Council did not record in the minutes additional funding sources; staff will return with finalized contract documents and costs for implementation and any required budget amendment.
Work details, payment timing and any change orders will follow the contractor’s standard terms and conditions outlined in the proposal. Council recorded the authorization by roll call and directed staff to proceed with procurement steps.
