The City Council approved a series of routine measures Wednesday, including permission for a downtown music event, several road- and parking-lot maintenance recommendations from the Road Commission and an amended employment contract for the city manager.
Council voted to allow downtown restaurants to stage a music event behind Smitty’s and adjacent buildings at the northeast corner of U.S. 2 and Madison Street, using city parking lots and an adjoining city-owned parcel. Organizers must furnish certificates of insurance that list the city as additionally insured and will work with staff to set a firm October date.
The Road Commission recommended a 2-inch H overlay for the Green Park building and wastewater treatment plant access drive, plus crack-filling on Madison, North Lincoln and Raymond streets. Council approved the work but noted overlay items were not budgeted this year and some projects may be deferred until next year.
Council also approved an amendment to the city manager’s contract that adds one year to the term (for a total three-year term) and updates compensation as requested; members discussed, and ultimately approved, language around inclusion of employee benefits and a 90-day benefits-continuation/termination clause. The mayor will sign the revised contract.
