At its July 10 meeting the Bellevue Downtown Development Authority received several routine updates: a sound-system installation date, the status of the Façade Grant, a volunteer painting opportunity and a proposed scholarship for local high-school seniors.
M. Pennington told members that speakers for the park sound system are no longer on back order and installation is scheduled to begin Monday, July 21; the Village will block parking near the park at 6 a.m. that day to allow installers room to work. C. Carpenter reported that there are currently no applications for the Façade Grant and said she would post again on the DDA Facebook page; she noted Independent Bank has handed out applications to businesses. The transcript records an application deadline of no later than Aug. 30.
M. Smith said he had contacted Luke Julian about asking Trail Life volunteers to paint older park equipment as a community-service project when the group resumes activity for the school year. On a separate item, M. Smith proposed the DDA consider establishing a scholarship for high-school seniors; the board supported the idea but deferred discussion of specific guidelines and amounts to the August meeting, asking members to bring proposals.
The board also discussed supporting the community Turkey Dinner; C. Carpenter said she would reach out to Randy Barnes to identify needs. Finally, M. Smith urged greater use of the DDA’s Facebook page to publicize events and highlight businesses, and said he will gather information and photos from the new bakery owner for a promotional post.
Administrative notes: The board approved the June 12 minutes at the start of the meeting and adjourned at 8:43 a.m. after routine business.
