Plumbing failure soaks new gym floor; district follows remediation recommendations to dry boards

District custodians, maintenance staff and contractors worked to divert and extract water; a remediation contractor removed approximately 30 gallons from under the floor and put dehumidifiers and extraction equipment in place.
The remediation contractor (Servpro) advised the district that the floor would need a period of uninterrupted drying, estimating seven to 10 days of continuous dehumidification and air movement to stabilize the sub‑floor layers. Director Dash said the water migrated under the floor through engineered air channels beneath the plywood layers; installers warned that some damage might not be visible until months later if drying is incomplete. "They pulled out about 30 gallons of water with dehumidifiers off the floor," Director Dash said, and added crews had continued extraction overnight.
Board members and staff discussed near‑term event impacts. The athletic schedule includes games and a Christmas tournament; trustees and the facilities director discussed options such as swapping locations, limiting use, or rescheduling events while drying continues. Several trustees urged following Servpro's recommendation. "If Servpro has recommended that we not be on the floor, I think that should be followed," one trustee said.
District staff reported that crews cleaned visible water within about an hour of discovery, that some classroom carpet was affected and repaired by maintenance crews, and that drying equipment has run continuously since the incident. Staff said they will pursue warranty or insurance remedies as appropriate and consult the floor installers and remediation contractor about recovery and any long‑term consequences. The board asked facilities staff to return with a plan for managing athletics and events while preserving the new floor.
