The Benton Harbor Area Schools board heard a staff presentation on a 2024–25 sinking-fund budget revision to finance a new Verata school security system and other projects.
Mr. Brock Carter, who presented the revision, said the sinking fund began the fiscal year with about $10.22 million. With an estimated $1.95 million in property-tax revenue and revised project expenditures of $7.5 million, the staff-projected June 30, 2025 ending sinking-fund balance would be approximately $4.67 million, a net decrease of about $5.55 million.
Mr. Carter read slide figures and explained that the revision reflects school-security improvements that were not included in the district’s original 2024–25 sinking-fund budget. He also noted a specific project allocation of $1,526,792.20 for a Verata portion of the work, and said the revised budget keeps the district within sinking-fund-authorized uses.
Trustees asked for clarification on slide formatting and numeric presentation during the briefing and asked staff to provide any supporting schedules at the December meeting. No final vote on the revision was recorded at the work session; the staff report (F1) remains on the calendar for the regular board meeting.
