The Village of Beecher Board of Trustees on Aug. 12 authorized the village attorney to draft an ordinance to grant a special-use permit for a U-Haul rental business at 759 W. Indiana Avenue. Trustee Gardner moved to authorize the attorney and Trustee Weissbohn seconded; the motion passed on a 5-0 vote.
The Planning and Zoning Commission had unanimously recommended approval with conditions: no more than four trucks may be parked on the property, and the single truck parked in front must be operable and occasionally moved. Vic Reato, the petitioner, described his plan and representatives from U-Haul answered questions and confirmed rentals will be handled on-site.
President Meyer reported receiving a private message from a nearby resident opposing the permit; one resident attended the PZC meeting to ask questions but did not speak in opposition. The ordinance draft will reflect the PZC conditions and return to the Board for final consideration.
