Rothbury council adopts hazard mitigation resolution and approves censure of absent president

The Rothbury Village Council on Oct. 21 adopted a Hazard Mitigation resolution and voted to adopt a resolution of censure for President Vern Talmadge, who was absent.
President-Pro Tem Mike Harris read the hazard mitigation resolution to the council; Council member Denise Kurdziel moved to adopt it, with support from Council member Dylan Zuniga. The motion carried, 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent. The resolution, as read at the meeting, updates the village's formal mitigation posture for hazards affecting Rothbury.
Denise Kurdziel then read a resolution of censure alleging improper use of village property by Council person Vern Talmadge and moved its adoption; Troy Voorhees seconded the motion, which also passed 4–0 with three members absent. Talmadge was not present and made no response during the meeting.
The council also approved routine business: a motion by Denise Kurdziel, seconded by Troy Voorhees, to allow the Recreation Department to purchase a new Christmas tree for Village Hall; and a motion by Dylan Zuniga, seconded by Troy Voorhees, to pay bills. Both motions carried 4–0 with three absent.
The council did not record any separate motions to refer the censure to outside authorities or to schedule a follow-up hearing at the meeting. The session adjourned at 7:54 PM.
