Easton first selectman outlines regional housing, infrastructure talks and land-use litigation

First Selectman Dan Lent told the Board of Selectmen on April 14 that he has been meeting with neighboring town leaders and regional planning officials to coordinate on land use, affordable housing and infrastructure.
Lent said he met with First Selectman Kevin Christie of Westport and First Selectman Mica Cardozo of Woodbridge to discuss land-use and affordable-housing approaches, citing Westport's housing fund and Woodbridge's use of LISC Connecticut. He also discussed regional traffic and infrastructure concerns with METROCOG and federal DOT officials that affect Easton. Lent said he had conversations with Aquarion representatives, the Regional Water Authority and State Senator Tony Hwang about a proposed sale and potential impacts but did not provide contractual details at the meeting.
Lent reported the town received notice from developer Steve Shapiro of an appeal of the Plum Tree Lane decision and that Attorney Keith Ainsworth will continue to represent Easton. He said the administration is prioritizing reducing land-use litigation, citing the Lovejoy v. Town of Easton case associated with Greiser's store and ongoing work with Land Use Director Keisha Fink to clarify zoning for pre-existing commercial properties.
Lent also said he spoke with Laurie Heiss, chair of the Redding Planning Commission, about planning structure and met with Land Use Director Keisha Fink to review long-term land and farm planning while the FY budget process continues.
The board did not vote on any regional agreements or on the Aquarion matter during the meeting; Lent said staff will continue discussions and provide updates to the public as appropriate.
