At its Jan. 8 regular meeting, the Scott City Council approved multiple routine and administrative items, including actions to expand voting access, authorize a property sale for utility infrastructure, make a board appointment and amend the city budget to cover event and voting-site expenses.
Councilmember Boudreaux moved to adopt Resolution 2026-L, authorizing the mayor to execute a memorandum of understanding among the City of Scott, City of Carencro and the Lafayette Parish Registrar of Voters to allow the West Regional Library to operate as an early-voting site; Councilmember Roy seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.
Councilmember Roy moved to authorize the mayor to negotiate and execute a cash sale with Jason Paul Boudreaux and Micheli-e Foret Boudreaux for property that the mayor said will serve as the lift station site for Apollo Road Utilities Phase 2 on the east side of Apollo Road; Councilman Domingue seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Boudreaux moved to appoint Dawn Benoit to the Lafayette Parish Waterworks District North Board of Commissioners for a five-year term effective Dec. 1, 2025 through Nov. 30, 2030; Councilman Montoucet seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
On budget items, the council amended the budget by $32,000 to cover security costs for the Scott Mardi Gras Parade (motion by Councilman Boudreaux, seconded by Councilman Montoucet) and later approved a separate $30,000 amendment to set up the West Regional Library as a voting site; Mayor Jan Richard said the voting-site funds would pay for equipment, setup and workforce for two years after which the parish will assume costs. All budget motions passed unanimously.
Mark Savoy of Groom's Engineering and Dustin Guidry of Fenstermaker & Associates gave a brief update on ongoing engineering projects; the minutes do not record substantive council action stemming from that presentation. Mayor Jan Richard also announced upcoming events including the Scott Mardi Gras Parade, the Boudin Festival and a public meeting about a proposed new sewer plant scheduled Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
There was no recorded opposition to the listed resolutions and budget amendments; the minutes show unanimous approval for each motion recorded during the meeting. The council adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
