The Village of North Fond du Lac Board of Trustees voted unanimously on March 16, 2026, to adopt Ordinance-2026-02, which amends section 21.12(7)(g) to allow a compliant pool cover in lieu of the standard 4-foot fence for in-ground pools.
Administrator Nick Leonard summarized the ordinance change for the board, saying the amendment would permit a pool cover that meets certain guidelines as an alternative to the 4-foot fence requirement; the Plan Commission had recommended approval. The board held a public hearing at which President Mike Streetar called three times for comment and, hearing none at the hearing, proceeded to the vote. Earlier in the meeting two residents, Tim and Melanie Haas, spoke during citizens participation in favor of allowing pool covers rather than fences.
The ordinance passed on a roll-call vote: Trustees Duffy, Streetar, Schaub and Will voted yes. The ordinance text as discussed permits a pool cover that conforms to the stated guidelines; the minutes do not list those guidelines in full. The change affects local homeowners with in-ground pools by giving them an alternative to installing a 4-foot fence, subject to the requirements the ordinance references.
The board recorded no public opposition at the hearing. With adoption complete, the ordinance will take effect according to the village's ordinance-adoption procedures.
