RSU 18 confirms new fourth-grade hire and honors long-serving retirees

The RSU 18 school board unanimously approved the appointment of Nicholas Leveneller to a fourth-grade teaching position and recognized more than a dozen district employees retiring this year.
The superintendent introduced Mr. Leveneller, noting he earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Augusta and has spent the past four years teaching fourth grade at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon. Andy moved the nomination and Matt seconded; the board approved the appointment without recorded opposition.
Members also asked for clarification about a reported resignation listed as "Sarah Bailey, nutrition site supervisor" without a building noted. Barbara Bell (Barb), identified elsewhere in the meeting as the outgoing nutrition director, said turnover in nutrition positions is common because many roles are part-time (six to seven and a half hours) and some staff accept other offers; she confirmed Sarah took a larger position with a catering company.
The board invited retirees to be recognized and presented plants to employees including Ann Baldwin Bernier (speech and language pathologist), Barbara Bell (outgoing nutrition director), Robin Colby (Latin teacher) and Brian Barnes (custodian), among others listed in the packet. Board members praised their years of service to RSU 18.
