The Romeo Community Schools Board heard policy updates and supported advancing several items to second reading at its August meeting.
Policy Committee member Katherine Rice reported that Policy 1001 (Conflict of Interest) contains updated language on board members' potential conflicts and that Policy 6002 (Safety and Security) clarifies a requirement for a designated behavioral threat assessment management team and new regulations requiring board notification for high and imminent threats. "The board has requested monthly reporting for discipline incidents and expulsions as it pertains to imminent threats," Rice said.
Rice also described updates to Policy 4005 (Political and Ideological Symbols), noting the revised language limits classroom flags to American, Michigan and school flags while allowing college flags for career‑readiness displays. The board supported Policy 1001 and 6002 to be second readings at the August meeting, and Dr. Robinson said follow‑up regulatory notes on Policy 6002 would be sent this week.
