At the RSU 18 meeting the board approved multiple routine administrative and fiscal items in a single session.
Personnel: the board approved the hire of Lauren Glick as a speech and language pathologist; the district noted Glick holds a masters degree in communication sciences and disorders and previously worked 31 years in RSU 18 before a recent position in MSAD 54. "She's fantastic for everything," the administrator who introduced the hire said; the motion to approve the hire was moved by Angie, seconded by Chelsea, and carried unanimously.
Warrants and transfers: the board voted to use open warrant articles at the district budget meeting (motioned by Andy, seconded by Christine), a process change intended to allow small corrections at the district meeting rather than locking amounts into closed language. The board also pre-authorized the administration to transfer up to 5% between cost centers to manage year-end variances (moved by Andy).
Grants: the board approved pre-approval for the administration to submit state and federal grant applications but adopted an explicit stipulation that applications requiring matching funds or nonstandard commitments should be brought to the board. Heather moved the non-matching stipulation; John seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. District staff said they will not pursue grants that would obligate the district to expenditures without prior board approval.
Votes at a glance: hiring of Lauren Glick (approved, mover Angie, seconder Chelsea); open warrant articles (approved, mover Andy, seconder Christine); pre-authorization for 5% transfers between cost centers (approved, mover Andy); pre-approval to submit state and federal grants that do not require matching funds (approved, mover Heather, seconder John).
