RSU 18 board approves annual $500,000 technology lease and a maintenance/transportation lease

The RSU 18 board approved two routine lease resolutions intended to smooth capital replacement cycles: a technology lease of about $500,000 and a maintenance/transportation lease covering items such as a dump‑body trailer, a replacement van and floor scrubbers.
Staff explained the technology lease is part of an annual replacement strategy in which the district pays off an old lease and takes a new one to avoid peaks and valleys in the operating budget: "We take out a lease every year, pay off an old lease, take out a new lease, and then we're able to keep those budget lines stable," a staff member said.
Andy moved approval of the technology lease; the motion was seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve it. Later the board reviewed a maintenance/transportation lease that includes several replacement items; that motion (moved by Andy and seconded by Chris) also passed unanimously.
Staff said the maintenance lease is part of an established replacement cycle and that district staff will provide additional documentation requested by board members (e.g., a timeline of when prior leases were undertaken). No additional conditions were attached to the approvals.
