The RSU 18 school board voted unanimously to adopt the proposed FY27 school calendar after discussion about coordination with the technical center, Thanksgiving week scheduling and the district's approach to snow days (no pre-built snow days; days are tacked onto the end of the year).
The board also unanimously authorized administration to issue a request for qualifications (RFQ) to select a performance contracting firm to assist with audits and projects related to indoor air quality, heating, ventilation and other facility improvements. Administration recommended forming a small interview team of staff and board members to review respondents and bring a recommended firm back to the full board for approval.
In policy business the board advanced a package of second-reading policy updates tied largely to statutory changes; during discussion the board discovered an incorrect statutory citation in the executive-session policy (BEC) and voted to pull that one policy for correction and return it at the next meeting. Members also discussed clarifying student code-of-conduct language so building handbooks and board policy align.
Separately, the board welcomed a new hire: Sean Forky, who will begin as the district's director of nutrition at month-end after serving at Spectrum Generations; the committee reported his selection was unanimous.
The meeting concluded with a brief recess and a motion to enter executive session on contract negotiations with an administrative assistant under the referenced statute; the board recessed and entered closed session.
