At the June 16 Board of Finance meeting, members approved two supplemental appropriations by voice vote.
Hot-water heater — Simsbury Farms golf clubhouse: Staff reported a leaking, aged hot-water system at the Russell Shaw/Simsbury Farms clubhouse. Vendors initially quoted $33,000–$48,000 to replace the existing oversized system; after re-scoping staff obtained multiple quotes under $10,000 for a right-sized replacement intended to avoid further building damage and interruptions. The board voted to approve a supplemental appropriation of up to $10,000 to be funded from the Simsbury Farms special revenue fund. Staff said work is urgent and planned for the coming days.
MOBI mats — AARP Community Challenge grant (accessibility): The board also approved accepting and appropriating a $14,000 AARP Community Challenge flagship grant to buy portable MOBI mats and rolling carts to improve field and event accessibility for people with mobility needs. Presenters said the mats are roll-out, non-permanent surfaces (useful for concerts, graduations, field events), come with rolling carts for handling, and that delivery and associated costs were included in the grant. Staff said no local tax dollars are required; any unspent FY2026 dollars would be rolled into FY2027 for expenditure.
Votes and process: Both motions passed by voice vote with unanimous affirmative response recorded as "I." The board also voted earlier to amend the agenda to consider the hot-water-heater request earlier in the meeting. Staff will provide contractual and invoice documentation to close out the items in subsequent finance paperwork.
