Board approves guaranteed‑maximum‑price amendment for summer projects, reallocating bond savings

Using those savings and accrued interest, the board approved GMP Amendment No. 2 to Brawn. The figures read into the record during the presentation were a base GMP to Brawn of $772,500, a recommended 5% owner contingency of $38,600, and a stated total GMP of about $811,000 as presented in the meeting materials.
The amendment covers replacement of select flooring in student spaces and corridors at Madison High School and a portion of the roofing at Wilkinson Middle School; administration said work is prioritized based on the December 2023 facility assessment.
Board members moved and seconded the motion and approved the amendment by roll‑call vote. Those voting "yes" (as recorded in the meeting) were April Anelo, Mary Bush, Rebecca Chamblas, Cindy Holder, Mark Kimble, Chera McAlpine Taylor and Gloria Thompson.
Administration and the district’s construction advisers emphasized adherence to state bidding rules and to return to the board for approval of any large change orders. The board also voted the same evening to move related study-session items ahead on the agenda so the GMP could be considered.
The district’s owner’s representative and counsel walked trustees through the procurement and oversight steps that will follow: awarding subcontracts, monitoring contingency use and bringing any change orders above thresholds back for board approval. The construction schedule and final contractor recommendations will be reported to the board before work begins this summer.
The board approved the GMP amendment unanimously; administration said work will proceed under the district’s bond‑fund parameters and the approved scope.
