Maintenance subcommittee approves minutes, discusses parking resurfacing, boilers, gym work and snow plans

The Hoosac Valley Regional School District Maintenance Subcommittee approved the minutes from its Sept. 8, 2025 meeting and reviewed a package of maintenance and operations updates during its Nov. 24 meeting at the Hoosac Valley High School Resource Center.

Adam Emerson moved to approve the Sept. 8 minutes and Bob Tetlow seconded; the motion was recorded in the meeting notes as approved unanimously. Attendees listed for the meeting were Fred Lora, Bob Tetlow, Adam Emerson, Aaron Dean and Chad Carpenter.

Parking and paving: Chad Carpenter reported he has been contacting sealant companies to gather pricing for resurfacing and repair of the Hoosac Valley High School parking lot and said the committee will seek bids. He said line painting for the high-school lot is planned for spring and will be done using an automated field-striping robot.

Hoosac Valley Elementary School parking: The committee discussed whether the elementary lot could be temporarily converted to a dirt lot by removing a fence. Members also discussed a potential shared-use arrangement with the Town of Adams; Aaron Dean said he will meet with the town administrator to discuss options once he is on board.

Boilers and mechanicals: Carpenter reported that new boilers for the elementary school are installed and operational; one unit required a pump repair and the state inspector requested wiring changes. He said boilers are tagged and online but one unit still needs a network (back net) card to connect to the district’s building-management system.

Gym equipment: Committee members reviewed plans to rehang basketball hoops in the middle school gym. Brian Eseppi will meet with Carpenter for measurements, Atlantis will build reinforcements and Robert Lord Company will hang the hoops. Carpenter said the work is expected to be completed in December; the committee had originally hoped for November.

Snow removal and equipment: The subcommittee reviewed snow-removal plans and contract timing. Snow removal is put out to bid every three years; Carpenter noted the district maintains one truck equipped with a plow and salter for building-adjacent maintenance, and Larabee handles parking-lot plowing under contract.

Spring preparation and other business: Carpenter said he will work with Jeff Puleri to prepare baseball and softball fields and plans to repair and resod worn areas of the soccer and football fields in the spring. The group also discussed tree trimming near the elementary school (ownership unclear), replacing cracked seats in the high school gym, painting and grading work at the elementary school to divert water.
