Hoosac Valley Regional approves donations, accepts 3D printer and honors award‑winning teachers

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee unanimously approved routine business and accepted donations at its Nov. 17 meeting.
The committee approved the Oct. 20 minutes on a motion by Fred Lora and a second by John Duval. The business manager reported a $6,500 donation from General Dynamics, which the committee approved on a motion by Tracey Tierney with a second from Jen Solak; the district said the funds are historically split among science programs.
The committee also accepted a donated 3D printer from BIC, received by Alex Rebello, who said the device "helps students be more enthusiastic in their work." Erin Milne moved to accept the printer; John Duval seconded and the vote was unanimous.
A request to approve a Grade 6 Nature’s Classroom trip was postponed to the December meeting after a motion by Erin Milne and second by Jen Solak. The Policy Subcommittee set a Dec. 17 meeting with MASC to work on the Policy Manual, and the Maintenance Subcommittee scheduled a Nov. 24 meeting to review facilities work such as basketball hoop updates.
The committee recognized a group of teachers in a Spotlight on Applied Learning: Lindsey MCGinnis (Environmental Studies), Keith Wright (Chemistry and Capstone), Cori Scauduto (Biomedical Science) and Kristen Palatt (Project Lead The Way). Committee members praised the teachers’ awards and student opportunities such as field trips, job shadows and a Dec. 11 career fair.
The meeting closed with brief remarks and a motion by Robert Tetlow, seconded by Jennifer Solak, to adjourn at 8:34 p.m. No votes failed.
