Erin Milne and John Duval presented an update on the district’s regionalization exploratory process and moved to appoint four voting members from each school committee to the Northern Berkshire Educational Collaborative (NBEC) Steering Committee. Aaron Dean clarified that the exploratory committee will focus on sustainability and equitable representation and that superintendents will serve ex officio as non-voting advisors.
The committee discussed membership considerations, including representation from town or municipal government and from each member town or city, without increasing the total membership of the steering committee. The committee voted unanimously to appoint four voting members as outlined and set a target of having the exploratory committee established by January, when an RFP is expected to be ready.
Committee members emphasized equity in representation and noted the district website will be used to solicit community members for participation. No RFP vendor or timeline beyond the January target was specified at the meeting.
