Reed City approves Scarecrow Contest, five-year Spooktacular and fence agreement; New Year’s Eve Ball Drop tabled

Reed City Council on Sept. 8 approved a community Scarecrow Contest and authorized the annual Spooktacular event for 2025–2029, accepted a private fence agreement and tabled a proposed New Year’s Eve Ball Drop for further discussion.
Sally Daling of the Reed City Area Chamber introduced the Scarecrow Contest, which will display entries on Upton Avenue light posts; the council approved the contest for the 2025 season. The council also approved the Spooktacular event for five years, 2025–2029. Both items passed on motions by James Anderlohr and were affirmed by voice votes.
Representatives of Crossroads Recreation Connection presented a proposal for a New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. After discussion the council tabled the item for consideration at the October council meeting.
On a separate agenda item the council accepted a fence agreement between the City of Reed City and Catherine Brown of 124 W. Slosson Ave. The motion to accept the agreement passed on recorded roll call votes.
The consent agenda was approved as presented and the meeting adjourned at 6:23 p.m.
