Reed City Council approves $1.5 million in bills and several contracts and change orders

The council voted on the bills payment by roll call; Councilmembers Nicole Woodside, James Anderlohr, Mayor Roger Meinert and Trevor Guiles voted yes. The motion to approve paying bills was presented and carried as part of routine business.
The council awarded the Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2028 residential solid waste contract to Sam's Disposal. The motion to approve the contract was made by Councilmember Trevor Guiles and seconded by Mayor Roger Meinert; the roll call vote recorded support from Meinert, Guiles, Anderlohr and Woodside.
Council approved two construction change orders: DWSRF23 855450-3 Change Order #10 for Gerber Construction in the amount of $173,375, approved on a roll call vote; and WWTP Project #181682 Change Order #10 for Phase 2 EV Construction for $104,889, approved on a roll call vote. Both motions passed with Woodside, Anderlohr, Meinert and Guiles voting yes.
The council also accepted a bid of $3,700 from Hunter White for a 2002 GMC truck and approved a correction to an April 14, 2025 line item in the minutes as presented; both items passed on recorded votes. Consent agendas and department head written reports from Fire Chief Jeffrey Stein, Police Chief Christopher Lockhart, DPW Superintendent Rich Rehkopf, WWTP Supervisor Curt Brackenrich and others were accepted on voice votes.

The meeting also included discussion of a proposed Rental Registration Ordinance introduced by Councilmember Trevor Guiles; the council did not adopt the ordinance at this meeting and the checklist and details were left to be determined. City Manager Rich Saladin reported that demolition of the South Plant and Trestle bridge is planned for the fall and that the MEDC Pocket Park and DDA master-plan work are progressing. The DTE Tree Grant enabled the planting of 45 trees and the Rotary Club approved purchase of lights on the 100 block of W Upton to remain year-round.
