Reed City Council approves $2.08 million in bills, mutual-aid agreement, change orders and other routine actions

The Reed City Council on July 14 approved a series of administrative and financial items, including paying bills totaling $2,079,536.42, entering a mutual-aid agreement for the fire department, approving contractor change orders and authorizing bids for wastewater-plant work.
On a roll call vote, council approved payment of $2,079,536.42 in bills; recorded yes votes were Nicole Woodside, Charles Lupo, Roger Meinert, Brad Nixon, James Anderlohr, Trevor Guiles and Nate Bailey. The council also approved a motion to enter an agreement with the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) and authorized the City Manager to sign the agreement; that motion passed on a roll call with all members voting yes.
Council approved DWSRF24 855455-3 Change Order 5 for Gerber Construction and a separate change order DWSRF23 855450-1 for CJ's Excavating (the transcript records a net amount of ($56,512.19) for each change order) and authorized closing out the CJ's Excavating contract. Council also authorized staff to seek bids for WWTP East Equalization Tanks solids removal.
Other actions included approving a five-year scheduling option for the Reed City Beer Festival (last Saturday in April), accepting department head reports filed in writing and accepting the consent agenda. City Manager Rich Saladin reported receipt of complaints about post-construction re-seeding quality and said the city will correct the work as weather allows; he also reported Planning Commission work on the Master Plan and a recommendation to remove the building behind the Depot at 214 N. Chestnut Ave.
Fire Chief Jeff Stein closed the meeting’s audience comments by requesting prayers for the recent death of local responder Jenny Edstrom. Mayor Roger Meinert adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m.
